Chris Husbands wins 7th race aboard Blind Magic for trainer Chad Torevell. Pick-4 pays $3,316!

Jockeys Paul Nolan, Chris Husbands and Trevor Simpson stole the show on Saturday night at the Downs with a pair of hat tricks and a double-ender that shut out all other riders. Veteran trainer Gary Danelson also reminded us once again that we should never leave him off our tickets when he scored a hat trick of his own.

Chris Husbands bookended the Pick-4, which paid a whopping $3,316, with Stormin Arvin ($4.60) in the fourth race for Danelson and Blind Magic ($12.60) in the seventh race for trainer Chad Torevell. Husbands also won the third race for Danelson with Justcallmetater ($2.60) and Danelson teamed up with Paul Nolan to win the fifth race with Vee Vhoom Rules ($14.70) to complete his hat trick.

Last year’s leading rider Paul Nolan served notice that he’s back in business when he scored his hat trick for three different trainers. Nolan won the first race with Zaccheus ($3.80) for trainer Ardell Sayler, the fifth race with the aforementioned Vee Vhoom Rules and the sixth race with Wicked Landlord ($33.30) for trainer Emile Corbel.

Trevor Simpson continued to outride the odds on his horses with wins aboard Beejaykay ($24.60) in the second race for Corbel and Taras Ruler ($10.40) in the eighth race for trainer Irene Britton.

The Saturday night hat tricks moved both Nolan and Husbands into a tie with Jennifer Reid for top spot in the jockey standings with four wins each. Simpson and apprentice Skyler Whiteshield are currently second in the standings with three wins each. Apprentices Tori Gandia and Janine Smith are tied for third in the standings with a pair of victories as we head into Mother’s Day Sunday.

And it’s expected to be a beautiful sunny day! First Post: 1:30 p.m.
