Chris Husbands completes second straight hat trick with Magical Powder in the 6th race on Mother's Day at ASD.

Jockey Chris Husbands was at it again on Mother’s Day at ASD, following up his Saturday hat trick with another one on Sunday in front of a fabulous holiday crowd.

Husbands won the first race aboard Artic Fire ($9.20) for trainer Chad Torevell, the fourth race aboard Grace O’Malley ($17.30) for Lorna Gray, and the sixth on Magical Powder ($5.30) for trainer Gary Danelson. The three Sunday winners vaulted Husbands into first place in the jockey standings with seven wins, one more than Jennifer Reid, who won two races on Mother’s Day, and Paul Nolan, who won Sunday’s finale.

Reid scored aboard Aunt Doris ($6.30) in the second race for trainer Irene Britton and on Going For a Few ($4.60) in the fifth race for Blair Miller. Apprentice Tori Gandia also won a pair of races on Mother’s Day. Gandia took the third race on Have It My Way ($2.90) for trainer Murray Duncan and the seventh race for Carl Anderson with Calitor ($11.10).

Most notable for bettors on Sunday was the fact that once again Husbands won two legs of the Pick-4, which paid $2,866.70. Looks like it might be a good idea to include him on future Pick-4 tickets.

Also of note was the Superfecta payoff in the final race of the day won by Paul Nolan for trainer Ardell Sayler. While Nolan’s winner only paid $4.20, the $2 Superfecta paid a whopping $2,240.70 when 9-1, 18-1 and 6-1 longshots finished second, third and fourth.

A nice Mother’s Day gift for one lucky Mom!
