Western Canadian Derby Series

The Western Canadian Derby Series consists of three races. The first leg will be run at Assiniboia Downs on Monday, August 5, the second leg at Century Mile on Saturday, August 24 and the final leg at Hastings Racecourse on Saturday, September 14.

Owner/Trainer Point System

To encourage Performance and Participation of horses in the Western Canadian Derby Series, Owners and Trainers will be offered a bonus of $12,500 each. The Owner and Trainer pools will be split as follows:

Horses will earn points in each of the three races as follows:

Pools and eligibility:

Owners:

• Owners awarded points based off of a horses total points.
• An Owner may have multiple horses qualify and each horse will be ranked according to the points that they earn.
• In order to qualify, a horse must start in 2 of the 3 legs of the series.
• All Derby Bonus – If a horse starts in all 3 of the series races they will earn a bonus of 3 points.
• In the event of a tie where two qualified horses have the same number of points for the series, the bonus will split equally between the owners. For example, if two horse are tied with equal points for second, the bonus for second and third will split equally between the owners.

Trainers:

• Trainers awarded points based off of their starters total points earned.
• In order to qualify, a trainer must start horses in 2 of the 3 legs of the series.
• All Derby Bonus – If a trainer has a horse that starts in all 3 legs of the series the trainer will receive a bonus of 3 points.
• A Trainer may have multiple horses earn the All Derby Bonus.
• In the event of a tie where two trainer’s have the same number of points for the series, the bonus will split equally between the trainer’s. For example, if two trainer’s are tied with equal points for second, the bonus for second and third will split equally between the trainer’s.
