Snapshot In Time – Sacred Arrow

Our fourth and final Love Month tribute goes to Sacred Arrow. This chestnut mare raced from 1966 to 1969. She may not be the most well-known competitor, but there’s something to appreciate about a June 10, 1967, photo featuring John and June Sifton. We’re not sure why Downs patriarch Bert Blake didn’t make it into the winner’s circle photo.

Jockey Sandy Valenzuela was aboard, another name that may not be widely recognized. According to the Winnipeg Free Press, Sandy was the brother of the renowned Ismael Valenzuela, who rode the great Kelso after Eddie Arcaro retired (Bob Barnes photo).
