If you enjoy cheering home longshots, Tuesday night’s card at Assiniboia Downs was one to remember.
The longshots began in Race 3 when Complete Overhaul ($45.90) upset the field for trainer Maria Stanford and jockey Neville Stephenson. The generous payouts started immediately, with the $1 Superfecta (2-6-5-4) returning $4,495.00. The evening’s first $3 Prime Pick 3 paid $2,462.25, and as the longshots continued to roll in, the remaining four Prime Pick 3s returned $5,167.65, $5,586.00, $547.80, and $1,104.45, rewarding bettors who managed to connect the winners.
Another surprise followed in Race 5 as Rise Again sprang the upset for trainer Michael Nault and jockey Antonio Whitehall. Bettors who found the winner were well rewarded, with the $1 Triactor (9-1-8) paying $1,967.95 and the $1 Superfecta (9-1-8-6) returning an eye-popping $10,693.45.

The night’s parade of longshots wasn’t finished. In the final race, Prints Money ($27.40), trained by Jerry Gourneau and ridden by Sven Balroop, completed the trio of major upsets. The late-race exotics also delivered outstanding returns, with the $1 Pick 4 paying $2,326.15 and the $1 Classic Hi-5 producing the biggest payoff of the evening at an incredible $11,156.85.

Thank you to everyone who joined us on Canada Day for an incredible night of racing. The grandstand was packed, the racing was exciting, and the evening wrapped up with a spectacular fireworks display by CanFire Pyrotechnics, that lit up the sky.
